Holiday Fun Round Up

Central Virginia is getting into the holiday
spirit! Our community is spreading the love this Holiday season in so many fun
and beautiful ways… Here’s just a sampling to whet your appetite for more!

In Forest, Virginia, at Thomas Jefferson’s
home; Poplar Forest, candlelight tours are a beautiful and festive way to spend
a holiday weekend evening. There are several to choose from throughout the
month, depending on your interests. They include guided, storytelling events, a wine reception and tour, and a multi-course candlelight dinner and house tour. Tickets
required for all. If wine and haute cuisine is not your style, or if you’re
looking for a more child-friendly culinary experience, Lynchburg Parks and
Recreation is hosting a Holiday Treat Exchange! On December 9, you can
grab a time slot to whip up a batch of classic sugar cookies, hot chocolate, or
melted snowman bark. Register by Dec 4.

There are more child-oriented activities all over the area… Through January 3rd, the Bedford Welcome Center is hosting the Bedford Area Festival of Trees. This fun-filled, family-friendly event includes scavenger hunts, visits with Santa, hands-on crafts, hot chocolate, and cookies, and is totally free to participate. If the sugar high is making your kids a little crazy you can drop them off at The Lynchburg Humane Society’s Parent’s Night Out on Dec 20. From 6:00 to 9:00 pm— just in time for all that last-minute shopping, planning, or cooking! Let the kids get their fill of puppies and kitties while you get your fill of kid-free time, and support a fantastic local non-profit at the same time.

Whether you’re a runner keeping sharp in the offseason, or a reforming couch potato hoping to offset all the holiday party food, you’ll love the gorgeous views and friendly crowds at the Peaks Christmas Classic. This annual 5K is celebrating 40 years on December 7th and includes 1 mile and ¼ mile Junior Runs for the kids. On Dec 14th, in Altavista, you can gussy up in holiday style and run the Deck The Heels Night Run (5K), fully equipped with glow-in-the-dark accessories, and a post-race party with hot chocolate, live music, and Santa pics!

Ready to get started on your holiday gift shopping? Looking for more Christmas Spirit in your shopping experience than a late-night Amazon search? Go local! Markets full of handmade, vintage, and local gifts abound throughout the area: Appomattox, Amherst, Madison Heights, Charlottesville, and many more!

Most of all, whether you shop, craft, eat,
drink, or run, have a wonderful, joyful Holiday Season!!
